Introduction
The side quest “Out of the Forest, Into the Forge” in Dragon’s Dogma 2 tasks players with procuring an elven delicacy to assist the Arborheart. It offers a decent reward in exchange for otherwise worthless items, making it a quest worth completing early. Our guide provides all the details needed to begin and finish the quest.
How to Start Out of the Forest, Into the Forge
You’ll find this quest at Brokkr’s Forge in Bakbattahl, where it starts automatically after completing “The Ailing Arborheart”. Despite elf-dwarf tensions, Sara believes Brokkr will trade the Scalecinder for nutriabh, an elven delicacy. Your first task is to head to Sacred Arbor and speak with Doireann. Place a portcrystal near Bakbattahl to speed up your return.
Head Back to Doireann in “Out of the Forest into the Forge Quest”
Go to Sacred Arbor and inform Doireann about the deal to trade nutriabh for the Scalecinder. She’ll be puzzled since nutriabh is made from rotten fish and apples, but she’s willing to prepare it. However, you’ll need to gather the ingredients. Apples can be found in Vermund’s wilderness, while fish are available in local waters or possibly in your inventory.
Collect a Rotten Apple and Rotten Fish
Gather an apple and a fish, then wait for them to rot over time. The game will notify you once the ingredients have spoiled. Afterward, return to Doireann and give her the rotten items to begin preparing the nutriabh.

You can find apples southeast of the Sacred Arbor. Collect them and allow them to rot in your inventory.
Fish Location in “Out of the Forest into the Forge Quest”
You can catch fish along the shore at Sacred Arbor. Stay close to the coast to avoid the Brine pulling you under!
Meet with Sara in Bakbattahl
Accompany Doireann to Bakbattahl to deliver the dish to Sara. She will then ask you to follow her into Stragglers’ Cave, just outside the town.
Collect Scalecinder in Abundance
Sara will hand the dish to Brokkr, giving you limited time to collect as much Scalecinder as possible in the cave. You can talk to Sara at the entrance or wait until time runs out, after which she’ll inform you that the time is up. Submit the Scalecinder to Doireann to complete the quest. Afterward, speak to Doireann to hand over the Scalecinder and finish the quest.
Your reward is 13,000 G and a Warbler Cape.
