Introduction
Our walkthrough for Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Short-Sighted Ambition quest guides you on how to start the quest, whether to give Isaac the genuine or forged grimoire, and where to find a Quince. Set in Bakbattahl, this quest appears simple but has hidden layers, making the right choices crucial.
How to Start Short-Sighted Ambition
To trigger the Short-Sighted Ambition quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2, buy any item from Isaac at his shop, Isaac’s Wares, in Bakbattahl’s Mercantile Ward, near the armory stalls and Mettefere’s Cosmetics. If you don’t need anything specific, pick up the Lantern Oil for just 100 gold.

How to Complete Short-Sighted Ambition
Offer Isaac a Ripened Quince
Isaac needs a Ripened Quince to continue reading On the Transference of Soul. Head southwest from Bakbattahl toward the river and search for trees with yellow fruit. After collecting a Quince, wait 3.5 days to let it ripen; your quest log will update when it’s ready for delivery.

Obtain On the Transference of Souls 2
After you give Isaac the Ripened Quince, he’ll ask you to return the next day. When you check back, he’ll request On the Transference of Souls 2, which you can buy at Ibraham’s Scrap Store in Checkpoint Rest Town for 2000G. Before returning to Bakbattahl, consider forging the grimoire, as you’ll have the option to support or sabotage Isaac’s plans.

Give Isaac the Forged Grimoire (Good Ending)
To get the good ending, follow Isaac’s family’s advice and give him a forged copy of On the Transference of Souls 2. After buying the grimoire, ask Ibrahim at his scrap store to create a forgery, which takes a day. Once ready, collect the forgery and deliver it to Isaac in Bakbattahl. You can then buy On the Transference of Souls 1 from Isaac’s store and combine both copies to unlock the Celestial Paen spell.

Give Isaac the Geniune Grimoire (Bad Ending)
After buying the grimoire from Ibrahim, return to Isaac in Bakbattahl and follow him home. Watch as his ritual “succeeds,” reducing his wife and daughter to ash. This completes the quest with a worse outcome, though Isaac rewards you with the Ring of Disfavor.

Genuine or Forged Grimoire: Which Should You Give Isaac in the Short Sighted Ambition Quest
Following Isaac’s family’s request leads to a better quest ending, rewarding you with 16,000G and a grimoire that unlocks the Celestial Paen spell—ideal if you’re playing as a Mage.
